History of Cane 6

The Canes in the Antique Middle East

In the same way, around the Mediterranean basin, in Phenicia, Mesopotamia and Persia, bas-reliefs show the cane, being carried by high dignitaries, as a ceremonial or royal attribute

In Persia it is known, that whoever dared to penetrate in the King’s cabinet, without prior invitation, was sentenced to death unless the King , in a gesture of kindness, would hold out his sceptre to him.

Similarly and according to scriptures, Esther kisses the sceptre of Assuerus, as symbol of his clemency.
